South Korea’s military has confirmed that its soldiers fired warning shots at North Korean troops who crossed the military demarcation line (MDL) in the eastern area of the demilitarized zone (DMZ). The incident occurred on Tuesday at around 5:00 pm local time, when about 10 North Korean soldiers breached the MDL.

Following warning broadcasts and the firing of warning shots, the North Korean soldiers turned back and retreated. South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) issued a statement saying that the military was closely monitoring the situation and taking the necessary measures according to standard operational procedures. The JCS also noted that some of the North Korean soldiers involved in the incident were armed.

This event highlights the ongoing tension and volatility in the region, especially around the heavily militarized border. South Korea has been on high alert and has emphasized its commitment to safeguarding its borders and responding appropriately to any incursions or provocations. The situation remains tense, with both nations closely watching each other’s military activities.
