Mistakes can happen, Amorim backs Onana after Lyon nightmare

Must read

Andre Onana had a rough night for sure, but Ruben Amorim’s public backing shows some solid leadership. It’s not easy defending your keeper after two high-profile mistakes, especially in a game that could shape the season. That free-kick from Almada and the last-second equalizer by Cherki? Painful moments. But Amorim’s message is clear: “It happens. Let’s move forward.”

The added layer of that pre-match spat with Nemanja Matic just threw more heat into the fire. Matic calling Onana “one of the worst” in United’s history? That’s harsh, even considering recent form. Onana firing back with the “at least I’ve lifted trophies” line keeps the tension going — and probably fired up the Lyon crowd, judging by the boos.

Yoro’s performance stood out — 19 years old and already stepping up on the European stage. And Zirkzee’s goal seemed like it could have sealed it… until Onana’s late mistake turned triumph into tension again.

Cherki’s comments add spice for the second leg. His “we felt the fear in them” jab will no doubt be pinned to United’s dressing room wall. Lyon clearly feel they can go to Old Trafford and get a result.

So now, it’s all to play for. Second leg at Old Trafford. United’s unbeaten European run. Champions League qualification on the line. Feels like it’s set up for a massive night.

Who do you think comes out on top in the return leg? Or do you think Onana will bounce back under pressure?
