The U.S. Embassy in Nigeria has announced updated visa interview requirements that will take effect on April 22, 2025. These changes primarily affect applicants in Abuja and Lagos, requiring them to present a DS-160 visa application form with a specific confirmation barcode that starts with “AA” followed by two zeros. This barcode must match the one used when scheduling the visa interview appointment online.

The embassy has emphasized that if the barcode on the DS-160 form does not align with the one used to book the interview, the applicant will not be allowed entry into the consular section and will be disqualified from attending the interview.

Applicants are urged to verify that the barcode matches the appointment details at least two weeks before their scheduled interview. Additionally, applicants are informed that DS-160 forms cannot be reused, and if a mismatch occurs, they must log into their AVITS account at least 10 days before their interview to request a correction.

This change is part of efforts by the U.S. Embassy to streamline the visa process and reduce administrative issues. If applicants are turned away due to a mismatch, they will need to correct the issue and reschedule their appointment, which may require a new visa fee if the original fee has expired.

These new guidelines underscore the importance of attention to detail when filling out application forms and scheduling interviews, ensuring a smoother process for all involved.
