JAMB Acknowledges Errors in 2025 UTME Amidst Low Candidate Performance
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has admitted to errors in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) following a significant number of complaints from candidates regarding discrepancies in their scores. JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, acknowledged these issues during a press briefing in Abuja on Wednesday, stating, “What should have been a moment of joy has changed due to one or two errors.”
Key Points:
- High Failure Rate: Out of 1,842,464 candidates whose results were released, 1,402,490 (approximately 76%) scored below 200 out of the maximum 400 points. Only 439,974 candidates (24%) scored 200 and above.
- Technical Glitches: JAMB has acknowledged that technical issues affected some candidates’ examinations. In response, the board has announced plans to reschedule exams for those impacted by system errors.
- Investigation of Results: The board has withheld the results of 64,624 candidates for possible infractions and is currently investigating these cases.
JAMB has assured the public that appropriate remedial measures will be implemented promptly to address these concerns.
