Abia Government Denies Otti’s Alleged Defection Plans to APC
The Abia State Government has debunked recent rumors suggesting that Governor Alex Otti is in talks to join the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement on Saturday, Ferdinand Ekeoma, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Governor, described the reports as “false, baseless, and unfounded,” urging the public to disregard them.
Ekeoma clarified that Governor Otti only attended a private birthday celebration for the twin daughters of Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, after the National Economic Council meeting on Thursday. He emphasized that the event was purely social and had no political undertones.
He further noted that while Governor Otti’s rising profile might spark political speculations, any major political decision would be made in consultation with the people of Abia and in alignment with their interests.
“Governor Otti remains a committed member of the Labour Party,” Ekeoma stressed, adding that there are currently no plans or discussions regarding defection to any other party.
The government also called on Abians to stay focused on the ongoing progress in governance and not be distracted by premature 2027 political narratives.
