In a recent interview on Just Vibes, Afrobeats singer Skales shared his thoughts on crime rates in Nigeria compared to the United Kingdom, suggesting that extrajudicial punishments, like jungle justice, play a role in keeping crime lower in Nigeria. Skales explained that criminals in Nigeria are aware that if they are caught, they could face severe punishments—sometimes being burned alive—which makes them more cautious compared to criminals in the UK, where such swift, brutal retribution is not a risk.

However, Skales made it clear that he does not support or condone jungle justice, emphasizing that such actions are illegal and extrajudicial. His statement reflects the complex issue of crime prevention and justice in Nigeria, where both formal legal systems and informal, often violent, methods of justice coexist.

In the same interview, Skales also discussed the Afrobeats genre, noting that it cannot be strictly defined in terms of sound. He described Afrobeats as an umbrella term that encompasses various musical styles, rather than a single, distinct genre. This highlights the genre’s versatility and evolution, as it continues to blend different influences and sounds, contributing to its growing global appeal.
